Well, today is the day. After doing last-minute errands I was on my way to the Charleston International airport. As I made my way past TSA and grabbed some dinner, I ran into three of my classmates who were also doing a global health elective in other countries. So we took a picture on the jetway, boarded the plane and we were off to New York. Once I got to New York I had to find something to occupy my time during my five-hour layover. Which became scrolling through Instagram, responding to Facebook messages, and making ridiculous Snapchat. The next thing I knew, It was time to board to Accra. I was so exhausted that as soon as I got on the flight I immediately started falling asleep. But, I was sure to wake up right before dinner was served. I definitely need one of those shirts that read “please wake me up for food.” Now finally, I’ve arrived in Ghana. I quickly made it through customs without any issues and one thing that was new was forms for visitors with any exposure of any illness with the recent ongoing issues of the coronavirus. Once I made my way through that and exchanged my currency, I went outside to go find Gigi to take me to the Cape Coast. I didn’t have any phone service for quite some time so my mom was being a mom and became super worried.....I’m okay Mom. We got on our three-hour bus ride and got to the house where I will be staying for the next four weeks. I’m very excited to submerge myself within the Ghanaian culture and to have the opportunity to learn from the various physicians and nurses here in the area. Stay tuned for my weekend adventure once I get over my jet lag. ✌🏾
It's time to go to Ghana!
